The federal government's largest law enforcement agency is on a major hiring push — and it is coming to your city. CBP is hosting in-person and virtual recruitment events throughout July 2026, with openings ranging from Border Patrol Agent to Criminal Investigator. For veterans, military spouses, and others seeking a federal career, the window to connect with recruiters is open right now.

CBP Is Holding Hiring Events Across the US This July
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) — the nation's largest federal law enforcement agency — is actively recruiting new employees in July 2026. The agency is hosting both in-person and virtual events to help job seekers learn about open positions, the hiring process, and available benefits. If you are a veteran, a military spouse, or simply looking for a federal law enforcement career, CBP wants to hear from you.
CBP is filling roles in several areas: Border Patrol Agent, CBP Officer, Air Interdiction Agent (an agent who patrols borders from aircraft), Marine Interdiction Agent (an agent who patrols waterways), Criminal Investigator, and General Attorney, among others. From July 7–9, 2026, CBP will host a three-day in-person Career Expo in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Virtual webinars are also scheduled: a Marine Interdiction Agent webinar on July 14, a Border Patrol Agent Virtual Expo on July 16, a CBP Officer webinar on July 21, and a special session for veterans and military spouses on July 23.

New CBP officers and agents may be eligible for up to $60,000 in incentive payments, depending on the location of the position. About one in four CBP employees has a military background. Military spouses may be able to apply through a non-competitive hiring process, which means they may not have to compete against the general public for certain positions. All positions require U.S. citizenship, and federal hiring rules apply.

From an employment law standpoint, the non-competitive hiring authority for military spouses is a real and underused advantage — it allows eligible spouses to be appointed to federal positions without going through the standard competitive process, which can be lengthy. Veterans should also confirm their preference points are correctly documented before applying, as these can significantly affect ranking in the federal hiring system. If you have questions about your eligibility or how prior immigration status may affect a federal background check, consult an immigration attorney before submitting an application.
