Migrants Found Locked in Rail Car by Smugglers in Texas

Agents from the Uvalde Border Patrol Station were inspecting a stationary freight train on a rail siding near Knippa, Texas, on the afternoon of September 7, 2026, when a Border Patrol canine alerted to an autorack car — a type of rail car used to transport automobiles. Inside, agents found three people locked in with no means of escape. The individuals, one Mexican national, one Nicaraguan national, and one Honduran national, had been concealed in the beds of pickup trucks loaded inside the sealed car. All three were transported to the Uvalde Station for processing.

The Second Rescue in Two Weeks at the Same Spot

This was not an isolated incident. On August 30, 2026, agents from the same station rescued eight people from a locked autorack freight car on the exact same rail siding. Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony "Scott" Good stated directly: "This is the second time in two weeks our agents have rescued smuggled humans locked in a rail car at this location." He added that attempts to enter the US illegally via trains have "historically had tragic results."

Smugglers lock migrants inside sealed freight cars and leave them with no way out.
